The Institute of Infectious Diseases (IFIK) at the University of Bern undertakes tasks in teaching and research as well as in diagnostic microbiology in the fields of virology, bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and serological infection clarification. As the only university institute in Switzerland, it unites all microbiological special disciplines of clinical microbiology under one roof.
To strengthen our IT service, we are looking for a committed and service-oriented personality as Application Manager IT starting immediately or by arrangement.
Tasks
- Application responsibility for the Instrument Manager (IM) as well as support and further development of the interfaces to Epic (Beaker) and the connected laboratory devices.
- Connection, commissioning, and technical support of new laboratory devices including documentation.
- Ensuring the stable operation of the IFIK server infrastructure (production and test environments).
- Monitoring and support of servers, services, interfaces, and subsystems with the goal of high system availability; analysis of malfunctions and rapid implementation of corrective measures.
- Participation in incident and problem management (ticket system), especially for IT systems in the laboratory environment.
- Participation in IT projects according to the supervisor's assignment.
- Support of the IFIK IT service to ensure uninterrupted IT operations.
- Participation in the IT on-call service.
- Compliance with regulations, instructions, and guidelines for the operation and handling of IT resources at the University of Bern.
Requirements
- Several years of experience in application management as well as IT support.
- Several years of experience in server administration.
- Completed vocational training as a software developer or comparable qualification.
- Very good programming skills in Java, C, and shell scripts.
- Experience in data modeling, database design, and good SQL knowledge.
- Knowledge in scripting and statistical programming (e.g., R, RStudio, Shiny Apps) is an advantage.
- Very good German and English skills, both spoken and written.
- Result- and service-oriented working method according to ITIL, high independence, flexibility, and pronounced problem-solving skills.
