Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and the Interior of the Canton of Zurich and employs around 1,400 staff with diverse professional profiles. JuWe is responsible for criminal and measure enforcement as well as the implementation of various types of detention. For JuWe employees, the successful social reintegration of offenders and the prevention of recidivism are of particular importance.
The Pfäffikon Prison (GFP) operates, in addition to classic pre-trial detention, a security department for all types of detention. The security department houses detainees from all over Switzerland who require special personnel care and structural measures due to mental illness, an increased flight risk, or high potential for violence. The GFP is currently under renovation, and reopening is planned for mid-2026.
To strengthen our security department, we are looking immediately or by arrangement for a committed, dynamic, and highly motivated individual who will take responsibility with us and help shape it.
Until the GFP reopens, you will temporarily work at Zurich Prison, where most of the team from Pfäffikon is deployed during the renovation.
This is your field of activity
- You supervise, advise, and lead the detainees and ensure compliance with the duty of care towards the inmates
- You support the personal development of detainees with a view to their reintegration
- You recognize and manage crisis situations of challenging inmates and contribute to an orderly, calm prison routine
- You are a member of the in-house intervention team (including operations with heavy equipment)
- Together with your team, you continuously train in de-escalation strategies, self-protection, and intervention
- You take on administrative tasks such as writing reports and documenting events
- Performing day, weekend, and special duties is as natural to you as contributing to quality assurance and further development of the operation
You bring with you
- A federal certificate of competence, a (specialized) high school diploma, a specialized middle school certificate, or an equivalent qualification; a professional training in security (e.g., justice, police) or health (focus on psychiatry) is an advantage
- Professional experience in security or order services as well as practical knowledge in defense and close combat techniques
- Experience dealing with people in challenging or escalating situations – you remain calm, act thoughtfully, and at the same time assertively
- A stable, mentally and physically resilient personality with high social competence, quick comprehension, and confident appearance
- Team spirit, sense of responsibility, and independence. You work reliably, solution-oriented, and keep an overview even in demanding situations
- Discipline, willingness to learn, and the desire to develop personally and professionally
- Assertiveness and professional de-escalation skills combined with empathy and self-control
- Very good German skills in spoken and written form as well as good knowledge of at least one other language and confident handling of IT applications
- Minimum age 25 years and impeccable reputation (no entries in the criminal or debt register)
What is special about this position
- You can expect a versatile and responsible task in an exciting and extraordinary working environment
- You actively help shape a culture in which dealing with people in correctional services is respectful, reflective, binding, and consistent
