Organization
2.1.
Sponsorship
The Rüti Mattli Foundation accompanies and cares for people with intellectual and/or multiple disabilities. In addition to housing and daily structures, it offers protected work and training places, various therapies, a curative education school, and early curative education.
2.2.
Financing
The government council of the canton of Obwalden commissions the foundation to provide assisted living and employment for adults with intellectual and/or multiple disabilities. Housing is financed through lump-sum payments from the canton based on this service agreement and personal contributions (disability pension, supplementary benefits, and helplessness allowance). 2.3.
Staff
The living/daycare area employs staff trained in social pedagogy, care, and health. They are supported by personnel without specialized training and interns. Training places for social pedagogues and care professionals are also offered in the residential groups. The teams of the residential groups and daycare are led and promoted by team leaders. The team leaders report to the living area management, which is part of the executive management. 3 Guiding principles
In the care and support of people using our housing and daily structures, we refer to the statements of the Rüti Mattli Foundation's mission statement.
Independent and integrated
We respect every person as an independent and integral personality. The living/daycare area offers people with intellectual and/or multiple disabilities a home in a social environment that recognizes and supports their individual needs. Developing diversity
We accompany the entrusted people in their life process considering their respective life and developmental age. We fulfill our mission by empowering people with intellectual and/or multiple disabilities to develop their abilities and potentials. Taking responsibility
Our professional care is characterized by an appreciative and resource-oriented attitude. With systemic and solution-oriented collaboration, we address the dynamics of group life as well as the individual life world of each person. Living partnership
We strive to enable the participation of people with intellectual and/or multiple disabilities. We work cooperatively and constructively with relatives, legal representatives, and other professionals/organizations. 4 Offers
4.1.
Various housing options and individual daily structures The living/daycare area for adults includes different offers to meet the individual needs of people with intellectual and/or multiple disabilities. We provide residents with support in individual care as needed, and external services (home care, family doctor, psychiatrist) can be involved for medical tasks. We continuously adapt the housing offers to sociocultural developments and societal changes. 4.1.1. Living in a fully supervised residential group At the Rüti Mattli Sachseln location, the foundation offers several residential groups accommodating six residents each. The groups can be heterogeneous (age, gender, types of disabilities), but age-specific groups are also managed. Depending on the disability, some residents are cared for full-time by the residential group staff (see also Individual daily structures 4.1.4). Other residents pursue employment outside the residential group. Each fully supervised residential group is also staffed at night.
The goal of the fully supervised residential group is to maintain and promote practical life skills. Residents are encouraged and supported in their daily life design, in maintaining internal and external social contacts, and in leisure activities. 4.1.2. Living in a studio connected to a residential group At the Rüti Mattli Sachseln location, individual studios are available. These are used by residents who can largely manage their practical life activities (e.g., washing and dressing, occupying themselves during free time) independently. Social connection (e.g., breakfast and dinner, participation in leisure activities) to a fully supervised residential group is ensured. 4.1.3. Living in a part-time supervised external residential group In the village of Sarnen, the Rüti Mattli Foundation operates two external residential groups, each accommodating six to seven residents. The following conditions must be met for admission to the external residential group:
- Willingness and sufficient resources to live in a shared apartment and participate in household tasks with little support (shopping, cooking, washing, cleaning, etc.)
- Ability to navigate largely independently in social and public environments. The goal of the external residential groups is for residents to expand their scope of action to manage their daily lives as independently as possible. 4.1.4. Individual daily structures (daycare/forest place) The daycare and forest place offers complement assisted living and are mainly aimed at people with intellectual and/or multiple disabilities who cannot work at a protected workplace (over 30%) and can provide only modest or no economically relevant performance. The individual daily structures complement full-time supervised living with physical activation, sensory stimulation, and craft activities. Residents are cared for either by the residential group staff (daycare living) or by daycare specialists. The individual daily structures at the daycare can also be used by externally living people with intellectual and/or multiple disabilities. The forest place is an additional offer providing structure for a small group of people with disabilities when they reach limits within the living and daycare. Nature and open space have a calming effect on them. Individual daily structures are offered Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 16:30. 4.2.
5.1.
Admission
At regular intervals, the needs for housing and care places are reviewed with other areas of the Rüti Mattli Foundation (children & youth area, work area) as well as relatives and/or legal representatives. Individual needs and wishes are collected and, in accordance with the service mandate, a suitable housing form is offered. 5.2.
Discharge
Residents should be able to live in the residential groups as long as possible. If physical and/or psychological changes occur that make daily life support difficult or impossible, cooperation with closely related organizations (home care, Pro Infirmis, psychiatry and hospital Sarnen, etc.) is sought. The limits of the residential group offers are reached where medical and nursing care or psychiatric support can no longer be guaranteed even with external outpatient support. Then placement in specialized facilities such as nursing homes (including palliative care), psychiatric clinics, or hospitals is necessary. A transfer or discharge is always discussed with the legal guardian and/or relatives. 6 Quality assurance
The quality system of the Rüti Mattli Foundation (according to ISO and INSOS Q) also includes the living/daycare area. Our pedagogical activity is influenced by societal changes and shaped by empirical findings. We see our task in continuous development. The process-based development of area- and offer-related concepts is a binding basis of our work and serves quality assurance. Regular internal and external evaluations are indispensable. Residents as well as relatives/legal representatives are surveyed about their satisfaction with the services. Recurring team supervisions, intervisions, and professional exchanges are conducted. Continuous staff training is also of great importance as a motivation-building and quality-enhancing measure. Therefore, both internal training and individual attendance of specialized further training offers are supported as needed. 7 Mission statement and concepts
