Team Leader Animal Welfare Livestock 80 - 100%The Veterinary Office of the Canton of Zurich is committed to the health and well-being of animals. Monitoring animal welfare and animal health are among its core tasks. Animal-appropriate husbandry of livestock forms the basis for the well-being of the animals and the production of safe animal-based food.
For the management of the Animal Welfare Livestock team, we are looking for a dedicated leader with specialized knowledge in the field of livestock as of June 1, 2026, or by agreement.
Tasks
You, together with your team, advocate for animal-appropriate husbandry and animal welfare-compliant handling of livestock. You are responsible for implementing control and enforcement tasks according to animal welfare legislation and ensure with your team the compliance with legal minimum requirements in agricultural livestock holdings.
As team leader, you take on the professional, organizational, and personnel management of a team of specialists. You coordinate tasks, are the first point of contact for employee concerns as well as external partners, and ensure goal achievement. In addition, you promote the further development of the team and the strengths of individual team members.
You conduct inspections with your team to check qualitative and structural animal welfare and ensure their preparation and follow-up. In case of deficiencies, you define appropriate measures and monitor their implementation. You also ensure the processing of reports from third parties regarding non-animal welfare-compliant handling of livestock.
Furthermore, you are responsible for the approval of trade, advertising, and transport of livestock. You check compliance with conditions, coordinate specialist inquiries, and are responsible for tasks such as drafting advisory letters, official orders, and criminal complaints. Through targeted information activities, your team and you contribute to strengthening the understanding of the needs of livestock as well as the requirements of animal-appropriate husbandry.
Requirements
For this professionally broad and responsible leadership position, you have an academic degree, preferably in veterinary medicine. Alternatively, degrees in agronomy, biology, or a related field are also considered, provided you have proven experience in handling livestock or in inspection services. Ideally, you bring leadership experience as well as experience in veterinary services.
You enjoy working with specialists, take responsibility, and maintain an overview even in a busy and sometimes hectic environment. Your working style is independent, structured, and solution-oriented. Animal welfare is close to your heart, and you are committed to animal-appropriate livestock husbandry with conviction.
With your willingness to shape, you actively develop processes and structures further and support your team in the introduction and application of new digital work tools. At the same time, you have a quick grasp and the willingness to independently familiarize yourself with new specialist areas and continuously develop your knowledge.
As a strong communicator, you are able to convey even complex matters appropriately and understandably to the target audience.
