Material processing and treatment industry
Here are some specific terms related to the material processing and treatment industry, often used in industrial and manufacturing contexts such as automotive, aeronautics, metallurgy but also watchmaking:
Material forming: Material forming encompasses all processes used to transform a raw material (metal, plastic, etc.) into a part or product with a specific shape. This includes various techniques such as molding, forging or deep drawing, allowing materials to be adapted to industrial or manufacturing needs.
Technical treatment: Technical treatment includes all operations aimed at modifying or improving the properties of a material. Whether it is to strengthen its resistance, improve its corrosion resistance or modify its mechanical characteristics, processes such as heat treatment or coating application are often used.
Presses: A press is an industrial machine that applies a significant force to deform or shape a material. Used in various applications such as deep drawing or stamping, it allows the transformation of materials like metal or plastic to give them specific shapes.
Foundry: Foundry is a manufacturing method that involves heating a metal to its melting point, then pouring it into a mold where it solidifies upon cooling. This process allows the production of parts with complex shapes that would be difficult to obtain by other means.
Machining: Machining is a manufacturing process that involves removing material from a raw part to obtain the desired final shape. This is done using cutting tools such as mills, lathes or drills, and is often used to produce precise and high-quality parts.
Stamping: Stamping is a forming process by deformation that consists of striking a material with a die to obtain a specific shape. This technique is commonly used in mass production of metal parts to ensure precise dimensions and shapes.
Heat treatment: Heat treatment is a process that modifies the mechanical properties of metals by heating them to a specific temperature, then cooling them according to precise methods. This allows adjustment of characteristics such as hardness, strength or ductility of materials.
Deep drawing: Deep drawing is a manufacturing process in which a metal sheet is shaped by applying force using a press and a die. This process is widely used to create hollow or complex shapes, especially in the automotive industry.
Fitting: Fitting refers to the assembly of different metal parts, generally by welding or riveting. This term is often used in the automotive industry, particularly for assembling structures or bodies, where it is essential to ensure a durable and strong fixation of components.
