The Lake Lucerne Navigation Company (SGV) AG is a subsidiary of SGV Holding AG. Its origins date back to 1836. SGV AG operates as a licensed, private transport company with a fleet of five historic paddle steamers and 14 motor ships, transporting nearly 3 million passengers annually on Lake Lucerne.
Area of responsibility
You will enjoy an extremely varied working environment and be directly at the heart of the action with our customers on the front line. Our passenger service staff will competently advise you on timetables and exciting excursion opportunities. You sell tickets and check travel documents.
As a future ship captain*in, you keep our ships on course. You can fully express your strong service orientation in all its facets and competently fulfill your role as host on board. The attractive working environment is rounded off by the maintenance/upkeep of the assigned ships and deployment as second ship captain*in on our larger scheduled ships.
Your career path
As an aspiring ship captain*in, you start your nautical career as a sailor*in. After successfully completing the first season and internal training, you will be employed as a cashier in the second year. If suitable and needed, training to become a ship captain*in can start in the third year. Subsequently, all career opportunities from a nautical perspective up to steamboat captain/captain are open to you.
During the winter months, there is the possibility to take on a versatile role at Shiptec AG (e.g., as mechanic, carpenter, painter, electrician, or pipe fitter)
Requirements profile
- Completed commercial or technical training
- High service commitment and great sense of responsibility
- Very good German skills in spoken and written form as well as oral language skills in English and French, additional languages are an advantage
- A high level of communication and conflict resolution skills, flexibility, and resilience
- Strong teamwork skills, independent, customer-oriented, and reliable working style
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends, with additional work in the summer half-year and compensation in the winter half-year
- Minimum height of 1.70 m
- Ideally between 19 and 35 years old
- Driver's license PW, category B
- Good physical condition, good swimming skills
