Pre-Doc Position in the Department of Economics

Your responsibilities

The UZH Department of Economics has a well-developed pre-doctoral program, and successful applicants will join a cohort of approximately 20 colleagues. We encourage our pre-doctoral fellows to take classes while they are at UZH and participate in the various economics seminars happening across campus. The pre-doctoral fellowship serves as a strong steppingstone to doctoral studies.

Your profile

The positions are well-suited for BA or Master's program graduates who want to gain research experience before entering a PhD program and are willing to spent an extensive amount of time in the field in Ghana, Tanzania and other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Applicants from outside the EU should have a minimum Master's degree. Preference will be given to candidates with strong quantitative background, statistical skills (STATA, R), experience in computer programming (Python) and AI (LLMs). Experience working in developing countries is an advantage, but not a requirement.

  • University degree in a relevant discipline (economics, computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics)
  • Postgraduate qualifications (MA/MSc/MPhil) or a BA with an outstanding record
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
