At the Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Basel, a 50% professorship for Older French and General Literary Studies with a focus on Humanism is to be filled as of 01.02.2027 or by agreement.
Depending on the qualification of the person to be appointed, the professorship will be filled as Tenure Track Assistant Professor (TTAP), Associate Professor, or Full Professor.

Your Tasks
We are looking for a person who- can represent French literary studies from the Middle Ages to the end of the 17th century in teaching and research in its full breadth, with solid expertise in the late Middle Ages and Renaissance (with regard to Basel's historical role in humanism).
- A theoretical-methodological diversity and the ability to analyze the current significance of humanism are expected.
- The willingness to contribute to the interdisciplinary teaching and research profile of the Department of Language and Literary Studies, with its transversal programs at the BA, MA, and doctoral levels, is required.
- In addition, a contribution to the interdisciplinary networks of the faculty dealing with the early modern period (research focuses Europe in a global context and Middle Ages/Renaissance/Early Modern Period) should be made.
Your Profile
- Applicants demonstrate excellent publication and research activity following their doctorate, corresponding to their academic age.
- Experience in teaching and the willingness to teach students and doctoral candidates in an engaged and innovative manner are expected. Applicants who can demonstrate successful acquisition of third-party funding will be preferred.
- In addition to teamwork and participation in academic self-administration, the ability to teach at the highest level in French is mandatory.
- Good knowledge of German or English is desirable and should be acquired quickly if necessary.
