We are looking for a qualified
Shift Engineer (m/f/d)
for our Facilities Management team to support a leading biopharmaceutical client. This position is critical for the maintenance of the specialized infrastructure required for pharmaceutical production processes, ensuring compliance with FDA, GMP, and other regulatory requirements while optimizing plant performance.
Your main responsibilities
- Monitoring and maintenance of HVAC systems including cleanroom environments, differential pressure control and air handling units
- Management of water systems including WFI (Water for Injection), purified water, and steam generation systems
- Administration of compressed air, nitrogen, and other utility gas systems
- Maintenance of electrical distribution systems and emergency power generation equipment
- Ensuring compliance with FDA regulations, cGMP requirements, and USP standards in all plant operations
- Complete and accurate record keeping of shift logs, maintenance records, and regulatory documentation
- Participation in regulatory inspections and audits as needed
- Maintenance of calibration schedules for critical monitoring devices
- Execution of planned preventive maintenance activities according to established protocols
- Response to emergency calls and system alarms within defined timeframes
- Troubleshooting and repair of building automation systems (BAS) and process equipment
- Coordination with external contractors and suppliers for specialized repairs
- Implementation and maintenance of safety protocols according to OSHA and company standards
- Monitoring environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, and particulate levels
- Management of hazardous waste disposal and chemical storage procedures
- Conducting safety inspections and participating in safety training programs
Your profile
- University of applied sciences degree in engineering, facilities management, or related field
- Relevant professional certifications (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) are advantageous
- Experience in FDA-regulated environments highly preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in plant engineering in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or similarly regulated environments
- Experience with cleanroom operations and GMP requirements
- Knowledge of building automation systems (Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Siemens)
- Familiarity with pharmaceutical water systems and steam sterilization
- Understanding of HVAC psychrometry and cleanroom classifications (ISO 14644)
- Knowledge of electrical systems including motor controls and power distribution
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Basic understanding of process validation and qualification protocols
Qualifications we would like you to have
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
- Professional engineering license (PE)
- Experience with Lean/Six Sigma methodologies
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with 21 CFR Part 11 requirements for electronic records
Your work environment
- 12-hour shift schedule (day/night, including weekends and holidays)
- Work in various environments including cleanrooms, machine rooms, and outdoor areas
- Possible requirement to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including respiratory masks
- Occasional lifting up to 23 kg and working at heights
