Automation technicians develop and build electrical control and automation systems. They master a broad technical field ranging from mechanics and pneumatics to electronics and computer science. The professionals program controls, assemble and wire electrical, electronic, and pneumatic components, and create the corresponding technical documentation.

Requirements for the 4-year training

• Completed secondary school
• Good performance in mathematics and physics
• Analytical and logical thinking skills
• Technical interest and understanding of abstract processes
• Spatial imagination
• Enjoy tinkering and experimenting and a high willingness to learn

Future prospects

• Completion of the vocational baccalaureate (BMS) during or after the apprenticeship
• Professional examination as an automation specialist, process specialist, or manufacturing specialist
• Advanced professional examination as a master in switchgear construction, industrial master in mechanical and plant engineering
• Training as a technician HF, e.g., in electronics, computer science, mechanical engineering, etc.
• Studies as an engineer BSc FH, e.g., in electrical engineering, mechatronics, mechanical engineering, telecommunications, computer science
