Is this helpful?
The Public Prosecutor's Office III of the Canton of Zurich handles qualified economic crimes (Departments A, B, C and D) as well as money laundering cases (Department E) and is responsible for international legal assistance (Department R).
We are looking for a motivated individual for our dedicated team in Department R at the Police and Justice Center starting February 1, 2026, or by arrangement, as a legal assistant public prosecutor (limited until 31.12.2028).
What to expect from us
Your task is to assist in cases of international legal assistance in criminal matters. As a specialist, you support foreign law enforcement authorities in their investigations and collect evidence available in Switzerland. Regular contact with international authorities is part of the job, as well as working in an international environment applying Swiss and, if necessary, foreign criminal procedure law.
The public prosecutor's offices of the Canton of Zurich have created a new job profile in the legal middle management aimed at individuals who do not seek training as a public prosecutor but want to participate directly in demanding proceedings in a support function.
In this new exciting role, after an introduction by an experienced public prosecutor, you will independently handle smaller and medium-sized legal assistance cases. In larger cases, you will work closely in a team with a public prosecutor and actively support them in various tasks.
Your duties include, among others:
- Preparation of entry, execution, and final orders
- Reviewing and examining evidence for relevance
- Preparing and conducting settlement negotiations
- Drafting legal memos (e.g., for appeal proceedings)
Depending on your level of experience, you will also handle cases independently under the responsibility of a public prosecutor. This is a new job profile; therefore, candidacy with a view to obtaining the eligibility certificate for public prosecutors is not intended. The positions are limited within the framework of a pilot project until the end of 2028.
How to convince us
Requirements for this position are a completed law degree and relevant professional experience with good qualifications, preferably with law enforcement or judicial authorities or in legal practice. A lawyer's license or similar professional additional qualifications are an advantage.
Flawless knowledge of criminal and criminal procedure law, confident German language skills in speaking and writing, as well as good command of English and another national language (French and/or Italian) are fundamental skills in our field. You also have a high level of self-motivation and work efficiently and purposefully, but with the necessary care. Furthermore, we expect integrity, discretion, resilience, a confident demeanor, and pronounced teamwork skills.
What we offer you
Working in our team is an investment in your future and a unique experience: you are involved from the very first moment, benefiting from the experience and expertise of our public prosecutors. Your workplace is located in the Police and Justice Center in Zurich. The employment conditions correspond to the cantonal guidelines. Classification is in salary class 18.
For further information, lic. iur. Bernhard Hecht, Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor and Head of Department R, is happy to assist you (bernhard.hecht@ji.zh.ch).
We look forward to receiving your application by January 11, 2026, at the latest via our job portal.
