Caritas Switzerland is committed to a fair asylum procedure for asylum seekers. Since March 1, 2019, on behalf of the State Secretariat for Migration, Caritas Switzerland's legal protection provides a free consultation and legal representation service for asylum seekers at the Federal Centers in the French-speaking region of Switzerland, in partnership with the Swiss Union of Jewish Relief Committees and the Swiss Refugee Aid Organization.
To strengthen our team, we are therefore looking for several interns willing to complete a paid internship lasting 8 months (from April 1 to November 30) with a workload of 50% to 80% within our organization. This offer is aimed at students who have at least validated all their Bachelor credits. Obtaining a Master’s degree and participation in migration law courses are an asset.
As provided by Art. 20 para. 2 bis of the Study and Examination Regulations of the Faculty of Law of the University of Neuchâtel (REE), a practical internship in a legal environment can also replace a module of the thematic seminar or elective courses under certain conditions. Regarding the Faculty of Law of the University of Fribourg, the regulation on special credits provides that a practical legal internship with an internship report allows the replacement of a pro-seminar paper or the obtaining of special credits.
Your tasks
- Collaboration with the various services of the Legal Protection of the Federal Asylum Centers of French-speaking Switzerland, namely the Advisory and Legal Representation services and the secretariat
- Legal representation and support of asylum seekers during their asylum procedure and follow-up of individual cases under the direction of a team leader
- Drafting various legal documents
- Analysis and monitoring of doctrine, practice, and case law
- Preparation of internal working documents
- Assistance in handling evidence and archiving
Our requirements
- University education - Faculty of Law - (all Bachelor credits validated)
- Languages: French with good knowledge of English and German
- Good computer skills (Office)
- Show enthusiasm and motivation
- Ability to work in a team
- Interest in legal and socio-political issues in the field of migration.
- Knowledge of asylum law and foreigner law
- Experience with people from other cultures
