Are you interested in the history of the canton of Zurich? The Department of Archaeology and Monument Preservation at the Office for Spatial Development protects and documents cultural assets from all eras and is committed to ensuring that the canton of Zurich can preserve its archaeological and architectural heritage and pass it on to future generations.
As of February 1, 2026, or by agreement, we are looking for an experienced person to lead the archaeological investigations in the canton of Zurich.

Your tasks:
- Responsibility for day-to-day business (building permit assessments, documentation of archaeological sites, archive-compliant filing and scientific valorization)
- Management of four specialist areas with strategic focus and member of the management team
- Close cooperation with the sub-areas of excavation technology, collections, and data
- Co-development and ongoing strategic review of the department's orientation
- Contribution of expertise in overarching planning and construction tasks as well as use and application of procedures for interest identification and balancing
- Standardization of processes
Your profile:
- Completed studies in archaeology (prehistory and early history, provincial Roman or medieval/modern times)
- Strong understanding of interdisciplinary collaboration and digital potentials
- Several years of experience in archaeological practice and team leadership
- High social competence, negotiation skills, and experience in administrative processes as well as project management
- Familiarity with the Pareto principle and careful handling of personnel and financial resources
