In the interest of employees and companies, the Office for Economy (AWI) contributes to strengthening the location Zurich. With its approximately 120 employees, it is active in the areas of location promotion, work permits, labor relations, labor inspection, and economics.
The Work Permits division ensures the implementation of foreigner law provisions related to taking up employment in Switzerland at the cantonal level in accordance with legal regulations and directives.
From 01.03.2026 or by agreement, we count on your support.
Your tasks:
- independent, substantive examination of applications for work permits based on the provisions of the Foreign Nationals Act and other regulations
- preparation of decisions and drafting of orders for the respective applications
- contact person for written and telephone inquiries regarding work permits (mainly in the assigned sectors, mostly in German, partly also in English)
- cooperation with other authorities, including the Cantonal Migration Office and the State Secretariat for Migration
- administrative matters concerning applications from companies in the canton of Zurich for the issuance of work permits for foreign workers
Your profile:
- completed 3-year commercial basic training, preferably supplemented by further education (e.g., in law and/or economics) or willingness to complete such
- at least three years of professional experience in demanding case processing
- understanding of legal issues and economic contexts
- affinity and interest in projects and developments related to the digitalization of government services (Züri Konto, EasyGov)
- confident in German language, especially in writing texts, good oral English skills (preferably C1 level)
- assertiveness and convincing demeanor with various contacts from business and administration
- quick comprehension as well as solution- and service-oriented working style
