What happens in the crime story after the credits? Is the convicted person taken directly from the courtroom to a correctional facility, or are they released and summoned to serve their sentence at a later date? What types of enforcement exist at all, what are their requirements and differences, and where are the penalties ordered by the prosecution authorities and courts ultimately enforced?
We can answer these and many other questions for you as part of a legal audit internship. And not only that: you will have the opportunity to quickly and independently apply the knowledge you acquired during your studies in practice and also gain experience in dealing with people in difficult life situations.
Who we are
Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and Home Affairs of the Canton of Zurich and employs around 1,400 women and men from diverse professions. JuWe is primarily responsible for the enforcement of court judgments and the execution of pre-trial detention. For JuWe employees, preventing recidivism and the successful social reintegration of offenders is of particular importance.
The Probation and Enforcement Services (BVD) are one of seven main departments of JuWe and are responsible for the enforcement of custodial sentences and court-ordered measures as well as probation assistance. They make an important contribution to crime prevention and the social integration of offenders.
The Alternative Penal System (ASV) department is responsible for enforcement in the special enforcement forms of community service (GA) and electronic monitoring (EM). As an EM enforcement office, ASV is responsible for carrying out electronic monitoring in criminal and criminal procedure law, juvenile criminal law, civil law, and internal security law.
For the ASV department, we are looking for a committed and communicative personality starting March 1, 2026, or by agreement (limited to 12 months).

This is your field of activity
- You review applications for sentence reduction in the enforcement form GA and conduct suitability assessments with convicted persons in initial and consultation interviews, then decide on admission to community service
- You coordinate, plan, control, and support the implementation of community service, mediate suitable GA deployment companies, and conduct site and reminder interviews (independent case management for serving fines and monetary penalties in GA after training)
- You participate in the enforcement of sentences in the EM enforcement form, attend suitability assessment interviews and installations of EM devices
- You make enforcement-relevant decisions such as approval, conditions, or termination of the alternative penal system and independently prepare the corresponding documents and orders
- You collaborate with internal and external partners in an interdisciplinary environment
- You conduct research and legal analyses regarding sanction enforcement in various legal areas and data protection issues
- You take minutes at internal and external meetings or hearings of convicted persons
- You manage files independently and reliably and perform administrative tasks related to case management
This is what you bring
- Master's degree in law from a Swiss university/fachhochschule, initial relevant internship or professional experience (e.g., at a court or administrative authority) is an advantage
- Very good written and oral communication skills in German
- Good IT user skills
- Independent, proactive, and organized working style as well as resilience
- High social competence and enjoyment of interdisciplinary collaboration
