The late consequences of a sister's murder after pre-trial detention release
October 5, 2022
The well-known Basel journalist Peter Knechtli reports in the latest issue of his online report about the tragic case of the Turk Hakan Mutlu, who murdered his sister shortly after his release from pre-trial detention in 1999.
The then responsible investigating judge disregarded all recommendations from the psychiatric experts as well as a prison officer, released Hakan Mutlu from custody, and thus indirectly contributed to the death of his sister.
In the meantime, his brother is also in poor health. Schadenanwaelte is examining whether the canton of Basel-Land, or its liability insurance, is liable for damages due to the misconduct of the investigating judge at that time.
