Presentation
The Applied Artificial Intelligence Lab (AAIL) is opening two full-time SNSF PhD positions in information systems / computer science to conduct research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and management. Given the interdisciplinary nature of research, we draw on concepts, theories and methods from various disciplines, such as computer science, organization science, information systems and economics. The project should culminate in a thesis composed of at least three high-quality research papers targeted at the field’s leading outlets.
The successful candidate is expected to enroll in the doctoral school in information systems at HEC Lausanne and will be supervised by Prof. Yash Raj Shrestha at AAIL ( https://wp.unil.ch/aail/ ). At the lab, we aim to publish at reputed outlets in both management (e.g., Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, Strategic Enterpreneurship Journal), Computer science (e.g., IJCAI, EMNLP, AAMAS, ICDM, CIKM, CSCW, ICWSM, MICCAI) as well as interdisciplinary outlets (e.g., Nature Machine Intelligence, Nature Computational Sciences).
The positions are fully funded by Swiss National Science Foundation for four years.

Your responsibilities
In your activities, you will perform innovative research aimed at publication in top outlets.
At least 80% of the assistant's time will be dedicated to the research for the doctoral thesis.
You will also be involved in teaching and administrative tasks. For the teaching part, you will prepare and supervise exercises and hands-on sessions for bachelor and master courses, and you will supervise student projects.
Your qualifications
- Master’s degree in computer science, management information systems, management or related field. Preferably with knowledge of machine learing or data science.
- Strong interest in doing research on the following topics: applications of AI in business and management, data-driven decision making, social aspects of AI
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Open to learning various research methods including statistical analysis, experimentation, surveys, qualitative methods, etc
- Interest in multidisciplinary projects involving computer science, management and information systems
- Fluency in English. Knowledge of French is a plus.
