The Department of Health, with its four offices and five services as well as around 200 employees, ensures the protection, promotion, and maintenance of the health of humans and animals. This includes ensuring high-quality basic medical care thanks to optimal hospital planning in the field of acute somatics and psychiatry, health prevention, as well as consumer protection and veterinary services.
The Office for Consumer Protection and Veterinary Services (AVSV), with its approximately 100 employees, is responsible for veterinary services as well as food and chemical control in the canton of St. Gallen.
