PhD Assistant in shoulder biomechanics at the BioMotion Center
The BioMotion Center of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Service is looking for a PhD Assistant between 80% - 100%, for a fixed-term contract of one year renewable.
Context
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the 5 Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in medical care, medical research, and education.
The Orthopedics and Traumatology Service of CHUV and its partners at CHUV, at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), and at the University of Bern (UNIBE) are conducting a large-scale research project on shoulder prostheses. This involves analyzing the complications of this surgery from clinical, anatomical, biomechanical, and genetic perspectives, and proposing improvements. In this context, a PhD Assistant position with a focus on biomechanics is open for application.
Mission
- You will carry out a doctoral thesis under the supervision of Prof. Julien Favre and Dr. Patrick Goetti
- You will contribute to data collection and analysis, as well as to the interpretation and dissemination of research results
- You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team
- You will attend doctoral school training
- You will participate in the common activities of the Center.
Profile
- You hold a Master’s degree in engineering (for example, mechanical, life sciences, biomedical, electrical, or computer science), or an equivalent qualification
- You have a strong interest in motion measurement and analysis, as well as biomechanical modeling
- You show great interest in computer vision methods enabling markerless motion capture
- You are willing to carry out a doctoral thesis related to shoulder prostheses
- You are comfortable in French and English, both spoken and written
- You are a rigorous and diligent person
- You are motivated with a strong sense of organization and interprofessional collaboration
- Experience in clinical and/or motion data collection is an asset.
