About the job
Once a fitter, now Head of Service & Small Conversions
Like most of our leading employees, the Head of Service & Small Conversions, Josef D’Aurelio, has a background in construction. As a trained sanitary and heating installer, he still fondly remembers his time as a craftsman. If his knee were still up to the daily strains, he probably would never have exchanged his dream job for an office position. After completing the chief fitter school in 2012, he was tasked with building a service and conversion department at the new location in Arlesheim. He started his new challenge back then with a 15-member team.
I saw the potential in our service and conversion department and set myself the goal of becoming economically independent from the other business areas of alltech.
"Special unit" for Service & Small Conversions in Arlesheim
Josef D’Aurelio wanted to stand on his own feet with his team, be self-sustaining, and also live from their own fruits in terms of acquisition. A workforce of around 40 employees now ensures that this dream has become a reality. A clear separation from the construction business areas was necessary because building technology in the private sector requires some finesse.
We carry out our assignments in the living environment of our customers. A neat appearance and exemplary behavior regarding cleanliness and communication are indispensable. The work also requires looking beyond the immediate task to coordinate the assignments of other craftsmen.
The professional skills also differ from those of a construction installer. Thoughts of MacGyver come to mind. Because, similar to the famous TV series from the 80s, the means available in the service vehicle are to be used solution-oriented. Every day brings new challenges, with long preparation times not being the norm. In addition, more and more expertise in the field of renewable energies is expected. But even though his specialist team functions autonomously, he places great value on cross-departmental communication within the company. The spirit inside and outside the team is unique for Josef D’Aurelio. And that makes working with colleagues at the headquarters, such as when drawing plans, a true pleasure.
Top of mind, even with private customers
When asked about his current goals, Josef D’Aurelio’s answer does not take long:
Hiring additional employees who live the alltech spirit.
Despite the full order books, Josef D’Aurelio is already thinking far into the future. In his vision, alltech Installationen AG is the first point of contact when it comes to conversions in the bathroom or heating system.
I am repeatedly asked whether we also take on "such small projects." Many customers perceive us exclusively as a partner for new builds and large projects. We need to work on that.
And we are doing just that. Positioning the specialist team in Arlesheim with their target group is currently one of the major communication goals of alltech Installationen AG.
