Assistant with management function or senior veterinarian, 80 - 100% The Clinic for Zoo, Pet and Wild Animals is looking from 2026 for an assistant with management function or senior veterinarian in pet medicine to strengthen our team Main tasks
- Organization of processes, planning and collaboration in the clinical area of pet medicine at the Clinic for Zoo, Pet and Wild Animals
- Depending on qualifications: Collaboration in the veterinary care of the animal stock in the Zurich Zoo as well as in regional wildlife parks - Training and supervision of veterinary students in clinical rotation and residents/assistants and organization of internal clinical training - Active participation in research and teaching
The clinic treats around 3,000 cases annually, about 80% of which are patients from private ownership and 20% wild animals. The case numbers consist of about 50% mammals (pets), 30% birds and 20% reptiles and other taxa (including fish and invertebrates). About 70% of the cases are primary cases, 30% are referrals. In addition, the clinic cares for the Zurich Zoo, the Langenberg Wildlife Park and the Bruderhaus Wildlife Park in Winterthur. Our team consists of seven veterinarians (including three ACZM/ECZM double diplomates), two ACZM residents in the field of General Zoo Health, one intern and three veterinary assistants. The clinic is part of the Department of Small Animal Medicine at the University Animal Hospital of the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Zurich, and works closely with other specialties such as radiology, cardiology, dermatology, neurology, surgery, internal medicine and anesthesiology. Additionally, we are intensively involved in the training of students during clinical rotations. Employment conditions
- The salary is determined according to the employment guidelines of the University of Zurich. On average, a starting salary (gross) of around CHF 110,000 per year can be expected, depending on formal qualifications and professional experience - Benefits include professional liability insurance, pension and unemployment insurance. Health insurance (approx. CHF 5,000 per year) and diploma recognition (for foreign diplomas) are borne by the employees themselves.
