The University of Basel is a university of international repute, which excels in research and teaching. Founded in 1460, it can look back on a successful history of over 550 years as the oldest university in Switzerland.
In response to the accelerated social changes in the world, the University of Basel, the oldest university in Switzerland, has established the Forum Basiliense as a research center and platform for interdisciplinary dialogue. We are now announcing fellowships in Basel for the third time. The theme "Conflict and Cooperation" will be the focus of the upcoming period of our forum and will form the intellectual emphasis for our group of international fellows and guests in 2026.
In a present characterized by multiple crises and various conflicts on a global macro level, the Forum Basiliense addresses the urgency of intensified scientific engagement with conflicts and conflict mechanisms, while also turning to exemplary forms of cooperation and concepts of cooperative action. The theme is intentionally designed as a dual focus, connecting both fields of conflict and cooperation, where the aim will be to think about the issues of conflict and cooperation in relation to each other.
We welcome applications on this topic from all disciplines represented at the University of Basel.
Your Tasks
We invite fellows for three to six-month stays in 2026, preferably in the spring or fall semester. Fellows are expected to participate in events and scientific exchange (regular colloquium) during their stay.
Your Profile
You hold an excellent doctorate or a junior professorship in one of the disciplines represented at the University of Basel. The fellowships will be awarded based on scientific performance, the quality of the application, and the relevance to the theme "Conflict and Cooperation". We welcome applications from all over the world.
We Offer You
The Forum Basiliense is an interdisciplinary and collaborative platform. We strive to create an inclusive, supportive, and inspiring work environment for a team of fellows with diverse interests and personal backgrounds. The medium-sized city of Basel, located at the tri-national border between Switzerland, Germany, and France, is known for its high quality of life, multilingual population, international flair, and rich cultural environment.
The fellowships offer highly motivated and competent postdocs the opportunity to contribute to a vibrant research community, expand their personal networks, and advance their own projects. As a fellow, you will be part of the lively and active research environment at the University of Basel and participate in scientific and academic events of the Forum Basiliense.
The fellowship provides CHF 5000 per month for the duration of your stay in Basel, travel expenses, workspace, subsidized accommodation in the university guesthouse, and additional benefits.
