The position is initially limited to 1 year.
As a scientific assistant, you are responsible for the timely preparation of materials for conducting student practicals. You also supervise students of food sciences practically in the laboratory for food microbiology (BSL 2) during semester, bachelor, and master theses. In addition, you actively participate in applied research projects. Thematically, you will likely deal with the characterization of bacteriophages, challenge tests with Listeria monocytogenes, and environmental monitoring of food-relevant pathogenic germs. The identification and typing (WGS) of these germs complete your activities.
You have successfully completed a university degree in the field of food sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, or a related area (BSc or MSc). You are not a PhD holder but are very interested in expanding your qualification with this position. You should speak fluent German and English, master sterile working techniques, and have basic knowledge of microbiology and molecular biology. Ideally, you already have some experience in genome sequence analysis. You enjoy experimenting and prove your assumptions with reliable data from the laboratory. As soon as you feel confident in your environment, your independence and initiative increase. You are a team player, open to feedback, act responsibly, and are open towards students and staff.
