Company Description
At CERN , the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.
Job Description
Introduction
Are you an engineer or a physicist, interested in design, production, installation and operation of complex high-voltage and RF systems? Are you interested in how RF power is generated to accelerate the particle beams? Take part!
You will join the Accelerator Systems Department (SY) , which is responsible for the beam-related technical systems of the CERN accelerators. The SY teams design, build and operate equipment systems in all CERN accelerators, and are engaged in ambitious forward-looking R&D programmes.?
You will join the MKS Section, of the Radiofrequency Group . The MKS sections designs, builds and operates the klystron-based RF power systems at CERN. This includes the LHC, Linac4, CLEAR and AWAKE accelerators, plus several RF test facilities dedicated to acceptance tests and R&D for power systems
Functions
We are looking to recruit two professionals to join the RF Group.
You will:
- Lead the operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of the RF systems in UHF band for the LHC and Linac4.
- Coordinate the experimental program of UHF band test facilities across CERN. Define the testing campaign and analyse the results giving timely feedback to production in outside firms.
- Act as the primary technical interface with industry partners for the production and qualification of vacuum tubes and other high-power RF devices.
- Follow up the prototyping and manufacturing of the new RF-sources for the Future Circular Collider.
- Design and build a state-of-the-art test facility dedicated to the new FCC RF power system.
- Produce comprehensive technical documentation including operating procedures, detailed test reports, safety assessments, and procurement specifications.
- Supervise and mentor junior colleagues.
Qualifications
Master's degree or PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of electrical engineering or a related field.
Experience:
- Extensive experience measuring and testing RF systems using power and vector network analysers or other devices.
- Proven experience in operating and troubleshooting complex electrical systems preferably in the high-power RF or high-voltage domain.
- Experience with designing and modelling RF structures and components would be an asset.
Technical competencies:
- Design, construction and testing of RF power generation components and systems.
- Operation and maintenance of RF components and systems.
- Design and analysis of RF systems.
- Knowledge and application of RF techniques.
Behavioural competencies:
- Managing Self: working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting.
- Learning and Sharing Knowledge: proposing ways to improve or streamline existing procedures, processes and methodologies.
- Solving Problems: testing solutions for long-term suitability, cross-checking with all concerned before implementation.
- Demonstrating Flexibility: being able to deal with ambiguous or unpredictable situations.
