About 450 employees produce reinforcing steel from scrap steel in Gerlafingen. Stahl Gerlafingen AG is the largest recycling company in Switzerland. The sales markets for the products are in Switzerland and the European Union.

Permanent employment in a 4-shift system

Tasks/Responsibilities

• Operating and driving shunting locomotives within the plant area and on connecting tracks
• Function as shunting assistant AI40:
  Giving driving instructions ("give tone") to the locomotive driver via radio or agreed signals

• Carrying out shunting work, such as:

  Forming, breaking up, and delivering freight trains (e.g. scrap, slab, rolled product wagons)

• Safe coupling and uncoupling of wagons

• Visual inspection of wagons and loads for damage, load securing, and technical defects
• Communication with the train dispatcher, dispatchers, and colleagues via radio or telephone
• Monitoring the routes and ensuring that all signals, switches, and tracks are clear and operational
• Assisting with the maintenance of the shunting locomotive and track area or reporting malfunctions
• Compliance with safety regulations according to internal guidelines and railway regulations (EBV) / BAV requirements

Skills

• Training as a shunting employee, shunting locomotive driver, or locomotive driver category A40 and Ai40 or willingness to complete this training
• Experience in industrial or plant railway operations is an advantage
• Very good spoken German skills, which are required for radio communication
• Physical fitness and willingness to work shifts
• Working outdoors in all weather conditions
