What you'll do
As a Technical Trainer, you'll leverage your deep technical expertise to ensure our customers and partners are proficient in Viasat's cutting-edge satellite communication terminal systems. Your responsibilities will include:
- Become the expert: Quickly gain a comprehensive understanding of Viasat's satellite communication terminal system solutions, including maintenance, installation, and support structures for multiple product lines.
- Empower our customers: Deliver hands-on and classroom training to internal and external customers, including airline personnel and maintenance technicians, on the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Viasat's In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC) systems.
- Collaborate and share knowledge: Work closely with our Field Service team and Customer Support Center to identify trending issues, resolutions, and process improvements. You'll then integrate this vital information into our training content to keep it current and relevant.
- Ensure compliance: Build and update training materials following industry standards.
- Maintain strong relationships: Establish and develop solid working relationships with internal resources, airline partners, and third-party vendors.
- Travel to provide direct support: Travel as needed to deliver crucial training to customer and vendor installation and maintenance personnel on-site.
- Support documentation: Assist and support the creation and ongoing maintenance of operational documentation alongside training content.
- Team contributor: Work seamlessly within the team environment to give to overall success in results and customer satisfaction.
The day-to-day
The daily responsibilities of this role are multifaceted and driven by evolving customer and program demands. This encompasses several key areas:
- FAA Regulatory Training: Developing and delivering training programs specifically to meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulatory requirements
- Analysing, Developing, and delivering (IFC) systems for airline partners
- Internal Customer Support Training: Designing and implementing training initiatives for internal customer support teams
- Train-the-Trainer Programs: Facilitating programs to equip internal personnel with the skills and knowledge to effectively deliver training
- Training Gap Analysis: Conducting detailed program analyses to identify and address training deficiencies across various areas
What you'll need
We're looking for someone with a strong background in technical roles within aviation and a passion for helping others learn.
- Aviation Technical Expertise: Significant hands-on experience in the aviation industry, ideally as a Field Service Engineer/Technician, with a deep understanding of aircraft systems.
- Keen Interest in Learning & Development: A strong desire to help others learn what they need to be able to complete their roles effectively.
- Technical Documentation Savvy: Ability to read and interpret complex wiring diagrams related to aircraft systems.
- Microsoft Office Proficiency: Advanced solid understanding of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
- Diligent & Organized: Outstanding attention to detail in everything you do, from crafting materials to prioritising and meeting deadlines.
- Collaborative Communicator: Ability to work closely with internal subject matter experts to gather and detail information and processes. Able to communicate effectively with diverse groups, including engineering teams, program management, customers, and third-party vendors.
- Travel Ready: Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally to deliver training.
What will help you on the job
- Aviation Training Experience: Proven ability in training within the aviation industry, specifically related to satellite communications or avionics systems.
- Certifications: Valid Airframe and Powerplant certificate (A&P) or valid Airframe certificate.
- eLearning Development: Experience developing eLearning programs that are SCORM/AICC compliant (e.g., Claro, Lectora, Articulate, Captivate).
- Adobe Suite: Experience using Adobe tools such as eLearning Suite, Adobe Captivate, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Premier Pro, Audition, After Effects, Edge, or InDesign.
- Video Development: Experience with video development.
- LMS/LCMS Knowledge: Knowledge and understanding of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Learning Content Management Systems (LCMS).
- On-Wing Experience: Experience with on-wing training or maintenance.
