The Office for Food Safety and Animal Health is a department within the Department of Economic Affairs and Social Affairs. It ensures protection against animal epidemics, enforcement of animal welfare, and control of primary animal production in the cantons of Graubünden and Glarus. To protect against unsafe and deceptive foodstuffs and consumer goods, it also monitors the manufacturing and distribution chains of the affected businesses.
We are looking for a head for the Office for Food Safety and Animal Health (with simultaneous function as Cantonal Veterinarian) from 1 July 2027 or by agreement.
Your area of responsibility
- Management of the office with around 80 employees
- Organisational, personnel and financial responsibility for the office
- Ensuring efficient enforcement of the laws within the office’s remit in the cantons of Graubünden and Glarus
- Needs-based internal and external communication
- Performing the function of Cantonal Veterinarian for the cantons of Graubünden and Glarus
- Professional responsibility for the enforcement of animal epidemic and animal welfare legislation as well as medicinal products and food legislation in the area of primary animal production and slaughter in Graubünden and Glarus
- Participation in various national and cantonal committees
What we expect from you
- Strong leadership skills and several years of professional experience in a similar position
- Federal diploma as an official veterinarian
- Familiarity with the economic, rural and political conditions in Graubünden
- Innovative, entrepreneurial, service- and solution-oriented thinking and acting
- Decisiveness and assertiveness
- High social competence as well as flexibility, resilience and discretion
- Strong communication skills and confident command of German
- Good knowledge of several cantonal languages is an advantage
