Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and skilled sommelier to join our establishment in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. As the sommelier of our Michelin-starred restaurant, you will be the expert guide for our clients in matters of wine, responsible for managing our wine list while providing exceptional service and personalized recommendations. This position combines technical expertise and genuine hospitality, requiring a person passionate about wine and determined to enhance our clients’ culinary experience.
- Develop, organize, and maintain an exceptional wine list that complements our culinary offerings and aligns with the vision of our establishment. - Provide knowledgeable wine and food pairing recommendations to clients based on their preferences, dietary restrictions, and budget. - Organize wine tastings and training sessions for staff and clients to promote wine knowledge and appreciation.
- Manage wine inventory, including ordering, receiving, storage, and rotation, to ensure optimal quality and minimize waste. - Train and mentor front-of-house staff on wine service protocols, product knowledge, and upselling techniques. - Analyze sales data and client feedback to continuously refine and optimize the wine program.
- Keep accurate records of wine inventory, costs, and supplier relationships using point-of-sale systems and inventory management tools - Coordinate wine-related events, tastings, and special promotions to enhance client engagement and boost revenue -
- Provide exceptional customer service by interacting with clients, answering their questions, and resolving concerns with professionalism and courtesy
Qualifications
- Sommelier certification (Court of Master Sommeliers, Wine and Spirit Education Trust, or recognized equivalent)
- At least 3 to 5 years of professional experience as a sommelier or in wine service in a fine dining restaurant or upscale hotel establishment - In-depth knowledge of wine regions, grape varieties, production methods, and flavor profiles worldwide - Proven expertise in food and wine pairing and ability to provide personalized recommendations - Proficiency with point-of-sale (POS) systems and wine inventory management software - Excellent understanding of wine sourcing, supplier relations, and cost management
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and engage a diverse clientele -
- Fluency in English and French; German or Italian is highly appreciated given Switzerland’s multilingual context - Detail-oriented mindset, strong organizational and analytical skills - Passion for wine and commitment to continuous learning and professional development - Experience in staff training and team leadership - Knowledge of Swiss wine regions and local wine culture is a plus
