The Office for the Environment (AFU) is committed to careful handling of the environment and sustainable use of natural resources. The Industry and Trade Department is responsible for enforcing the diverse environmental protection regulations in industry and trade. With customer-oriented enforcement work and advice, it ensures that companies can develop without excessively burdening the environment.
We are looking for a
Section Head Operational Environmental Protection (m/f/d)
for the Office for the Environment, starting immediately or by arrangement
Workload: 80-100%
Workplace: St.Gallen
What to expect
- Leading a team of about 7 employees in personnel and professional matters
- Enforcement of environmental and water protection legislation, especially in the areas of water protection, air pollution control, noise protection, accident prevention, waste disposal, biosafety, contaminated sites, and soil protection in various industries such as textile manufacturing, food and feed production, retail, hospitality, construction, logistics, waste disposal, and healthcare
- Independent handling of technical and enforcement tasks, especially assessment and approval of construction projects as well as conducting building inspections and operational controls
- Participation in cross-departmental projects as well as in informing and raising awareness among companies, municipalities, and the public on environmental issues
- Preparation of statements, guidelines, and enforcement aids as well as processing parliamentary initiatives within the area of responsibility
What distinguishes you
- Completed studies in a technical or scientific field (university or university of applied sciences) with solid knowledge in the environmental sector
- Experience in enforcing environmental and water protection legislation, in the environmental legal assessment of facilities and processes, or in implementing environmental and water protection measures
- Several years of experience in cooperative, appreciative, and goal-oriented leadership of a specialist team
- Independent, structured, and reliable working style
- Service-oriented, strong communication skills, and solution-oriented in dealing with stakeholders
- Very good German language skills, spoken and written
