About the role

The role is part of Amcor’s External Reporting team (5 FTE) led by the Group’s VP & Corporate Controller and it is responsible for Amcor’s quarterly SEC filings (Form 10-Q and 10-K), supporting other SEC filings as required (8-K’s, proxy statement), maintaining Amcor’s Group Accounting policies, and providing relevant, reliable, timely and accurate technical accounting advice. The position is further involved in various cross functional projects, including legal restructuring, balance sheet lease accounting, pension accounting and keeping the Business Groups (BGs) up to date related to accounting and reporting changes.

Key Job Accountabilities

Management reporting

  • Review monthly management information to understand the business issues and determine any technical requirements for material transactions for the financial reporting period.
  • Analyze financial and operational consolidated results to identify trends and activities driving those trends, and explain significant variances between periods.
  • Meet monthly with BG finance leaders to ensure alignment with significant item accounting, unique transactions, and business issues.

External Reporting

  • Support the planning and management of the quarterly reporting process in consultation with the rest of the External Reporting team and Management Reporting team.
  • Lead preparation of quarterly SEC reporting including disclosures (i.e., restructuring, significant accounting policies, new accounting guidance, etc.)
  • Liaise with external and internal auditors regarding audit program
  • Lead the development and implementation of continuous improvement strategies and plans with a view to enhancing the quality of statutory reporting outcomes
  • Liaise with the Financial System’s team to maintain adequate entity and account hierarchies within the Hyperion System (HFM)
  • Monitor and maintain corporate internal accounting controls applicable to the financial reporting team to ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements
  • Oversee centralized lease accounting process, including coordinating with business groups to obtain required information.
  • Compile and review information required for guarantor footnote disclosure.
  • Oversee the accounting for pensions and share based compensation arrangements.
  • Prepare quarterly key accounting matters paper for the Audit Committee, incorporating all significant matters for the quarter.
  • Monitor purchase accounting and divestment accounting.
  • Monitor accounting for all investments.
  • Oversee goodwill and long-lived asset impairment assessments, including annual goodwill impairment assessment and related segment aggregation

Accounting Policies and Procedures

  • Draft new global accounting policies incorporating new accounting guidance and lead annual review of existing global accounting policies.
  • Provide technical accounting advice for issues raised by Business Groups (BGs) or senior management.
  • Develop tools for communicating US GAAP accounting training and updates to the global Amcor finance team.

Integration of Accounting for Acquisitions, Disposals and other Restructuring Projects

  • Liaise with Tax, Legal, Treasury and BGs regarding legal entity restructuring, including acquisitions and disposals
  • Assist Treasury with external refinancing projects.
  • Liaise with BGs regarding the required accounting entries to accurately reflect legal entity restructures
  • Assist with group elimination entries for restructures if required

People Management

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Accounting qualification – US CPA or CMA designation
  • Expert in technical accounting (US GAAP / IFRS)
  • 6+years of experience as an auditor at one of the Big4 or equivalent corporate accounting experience
  • Experience in handling complex consolidated group accounts of multi national corporations
  • Solid understanding in regard to internal control systems (SOX 404)
  • Experienced in working in a diverse and multi-cultural / multi-national environment
  • Proficiency in English with other languages a plus
  • Quality-focused mindset
  • Solid technical accounting knowledge
  • Effective strategic planning skills with a sound knowledge of risk management and an awareness of the required internal control environment for Amcor’s business
  • Microsoft suite
  • Hyperion profiency preferred
  • Wdesk proficiency prefered
