The Space Research and Planetary Sciences Division of the University of Bern (UBE) has been granted funding to lead the development of two payloads for the upcoming ESA F-Class mission "Comet Interceptor".
UBE is contributing a high-resolution camera system, the Comet Camera (CoCa), and a neutral gas mass spectrometer, the Mass Analyzer for Neutrals in a Coma (MANiaC), to the mission. The launch is planned for 2029.The division is also building instruments for a number of other missions.

To help meet these challenges, we are now seeking an experienced Electronics Technician for Testing and Support.

Tasks

The position comprises following tasks:

* System and Sub-system testing, verification, validation
* Maintaining the required documentation (assembly logs, test reports etc.)
* Contribution to the instrument level ground support equipment
* Support for development of scripting languages software (basic Linux knowledge, Python...)
* Support for Electronics hardware development incl. support for prototyping
* Support for integration, EMC and environment tests as well as support for building of test interfaces (soldering, cable manufacturing)
* Management of Flight-Electronics components as well as maintenance of libraries, schematics and layouts (Altium)
* Handling of space instruments (according ESD standards and in a ISO 5 cleanroom environment)

Requirements

As Electronics Technician or Bachelor degree of Engineering, this position requires experience in testing of electronics system and sub-system. Familiarity with the space environment and knowledge of the ECSS standards would be an advantage.
Good spoken and written knowledge of English is required. German would be an advantage.

We offer

The position is based on-site at the University of Bern, Sidlerstrasse 5, CH-3012 Bern, and is available starting soon, or upon negotiation, for an initial period of three years with the option of extension. Our salary range is determined in accordance with the personnel regulations of the Canton of Bern.
