The Zurich International School is an independent day school in the Greater Zurich Area. We offer a well-rounded curriculum in English to around 1300 students from all over the world, aged 3 to 18 years.

We are seeking a Music Teacher to work at the Middle School level, grades 6-8. The ideal candidate will be flexible and excited to cooperate with a team of dynamic, professional music teachers to plan, deliver, and assess student-centred curricula in a diverse international school setting. 

Class responsibilities include:

  • Middle School Choirs: choir at all grade levels is a semester class, and has students with a variety of experience and ability levels. The candidate should have a solid understanding of vocal technique, range, and the changing voice. They should also have a good working knowledge of repertoire for this age group. Piano skills are appreciated.
  • Middle School Bands: Bands are a year-long course, and are usually divided by grade level. The students have between 2 and 4 years of experience on their instrument. The candidate should have a strong understanding of wind and percussion pedagogy and of band methods and repertoire.
  • Extracurricular activities (stipended) include preparation and recording of students for the AMIS European Middle School Honor Band and directing the Middle School Jazz Band.
  • There is also a possibility of teaching private lessons to students, contracted directly with families.

Responsibilities include planning, teaching, coaching, assessment and feedback, as well as preparation for and execution of music performances at school for special events and assemblies. Extracurricular work is an expectation of the role.

Applicants should have at least 2-3 years of previous teaching experience, preferably at an international school. A valid Swiss work permit or Swiss / EU citizenship is required.

  • BA / BSC or equivalent university degree
  • Experience with inquiry-based pedagogy 
  • Integration of technology into the curriculum
  • Learner-centred focus
  • Commitment to inclusion to meet diverse learning needs
  • Teamwork, collaboration, and active participation in school life
  • Ability to implement effective classroom management practices
