Systems Engineer (80–100%)
Your Mission
We are looking for a curious and motivated Systems Engineer to join our Edge Cloud team. You will contribute to building and maintaining custom virtual test platforms and cloud provisioning workflows that power our SASE edge deployments. As part of this small but prolific team, an entrepreneurial mindset will be your most valuable asset.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lean Development: Code in quick MVP cycles, work closely with users and iterate on the product based on their feedback
- Thoughtful AI-Partnership: Leverage co-pilot for efficiency gains without sacrificing deep understanding and craftsmanship of your product’s code base
- Customer Focus: Keen awareness of customer needs and the impact of platform operations on internal engineering teams
- Problem Solving: Proactively identify problems, propose solutions, and take responsibility for delivering them
- Operational Support: After completing an internal training course covering networking and security topics, you’ll spend 20% of your time solving real time customer issues to stay close to our product in the wild
Your core products will include:
- In-House Testing Platforms: Build, operate and optimize the virtual test infrastructure that teams across engineering use to validate releases on our custom operating system before production rollout
- IaC Network Deployment Pipelines: Develop and maintain IaC templates that provision and manage infrastructure on Azure and GCP
Your perks include:
- Mentorship: Work with a highly competent and engaged group of engineers for whom teaching is a valuable part of the job
- Responsibility: Fully own solutions with daily impact for internal engineering teams
- Flexibility: Enjoy a mix of joining the Zurich office’s lively working vibe and remote work
- Paradise: The operational support shifts mentioned above come with the opportunity to work 3 months from Hawaii
You will need to be independently driven - but we won’t throw you out to the wolves. You will work closely with senior engineers, SREs, and platform teams as you develop your skills.
Your Qualifications
You are early in your engineering career with a solid academic foundation and a genuine interest in empowering the other engineers around you, networking/security, automation, and Linux systems. You are curious, eager to learn, quick to acknowledge what you don’t know and comfortable asking questions.
Required skills and qualifications:
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- A hacker mindset - done is better than perfect
- University degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or similar
- Foundational knowledge of at least one scripting or programming language (Python/Go preferred)
- Linux systems and command-line usage
- Comfortable with version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S)
Bonus skills and qualifications:
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, or AWS)
- Exposure to Terraform, Terragrunt, or other IaC tools
- Experience with CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, Buildkite, Jenkins, or similar)
- Interest in or coursework related to network security or SASE architectures
- Experience with Bash
Extra bonus points will be given if you’re able to express your personal interest in this specific job in 3-5 sentences as part of your application when you're given a chance to leave a comment for the recruiting team. We’re specifically looking to get a feel for you with this - not to read something generic/AI generated.
