Quantum-safe Cryptography Based on Isogenies of Elliptic Curves and Abelian Varieties

The IBM Zürich Research Lab invites applications for a PhD position in the area of Quantum-Safe Cryptography. The position is fully funded by SNF through the grant CryptonIs: Advanced Cryptography Based on Isogenies.

The successful candidate will conduct research on cryptographic algorithms and schemes pertaining to the area of Isogeny-based Cryptography, a branch of Quantum-Safe Cryptography grounded in Number Theory and Arithmetic Geometry, under the supervision of Drs. Andrea Basso and Luca De Feo. They will join a diverse team of cryptographers working on all aspects of theoretical and applied cryptography.

We are looking for candidates with an interest in the following topics

  • Algorithmic Number Theory,
  • Computational Algebraic Geometry,
  • Cryptographic primitives and protocols,
  • Cryptanalysis.

Expected qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in Mathematics or Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge in Cryptography acquired through graduate level courses and/or internships.
  • Familiarity with a programming language and/or computer algebra system (e.g., SageMath, Magma, ...).
  • Familiarity with research productivity tools (LaTeX, git, etc.)
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn.
