Help our clients make better deal decisions and turn transaction theses into measurable results
Our Swiss market-leading Deal Transformation and Post-Merger Integration team advises Swiss Corporate, private equity and mid-market clients to generate and create value across the M&A lifecycle. We help clients assess operational performance before signing, identify and quantify value creation opportunities, and manage the complexities of acquisitions, divestitures and carve-outs. At Deloitte, we work closely with our colleagues from transaction services, valuations, and corporate finance to ensure a seamless and value-driven approach to transactions.
How you will make an impact
You will work with corporate management teams, private equity investors and M&A professionals to identify and realise value from M&A transactions. You will help shape strategic thinking, address critical performance issues and bring together the full breadth of Deloitte capabilities to maximise deal value.
Working as part of a dedicated team of M&A specialists, you will support and drive operational due diligence engagements by linking financial performance, operational capabilities and strategic ambition. Your work will focus on revenue growth and reductions in COGS and SG&A, whether through standalone improvement opportunities or transaction synergies.
As a Senior Consultant, you will take ownership of defined analyses and workstreams, work directly with client teams and support senior colleagues in developing clear, evidence-based recommendations.
Your role and responsibilities
- Drive the day-to-day delivery of defined analyses and workstreams within M&A value creation and pre-deal due diligence engagements, working under the guidance of senior team members;
- Conduct operational due diligence, operational analyses and financial baselining, translating findings into high-quality client deliverables;
- Support corporate and private equity clients in understanding the operational capabilities of potential acquisition targets and existing portfolio companies;
- Assess potential merger synergies, the impact and complexities of carve-outs on seller and target organisations, and the standalone performance improvement potential of buyouts and corporate divestments;
- Prepare for and participate in client interviews and workshops to identify operational complexities and value creation opportunities, including interactions with senior stakeholders across the organisation;
- Rapidly synthesise qualitative and quantitative information from diverse sources into clear, evidence-based value creation hypotheses and a compelling narrative that clients can readily understand;
- Apply a pragmatic 80/20 mindset to focus analyses and deliverables on the issues most material to the transaction and investment thesis;
- Develop practical operational value creation recommendations supported by evidence from interviews, data analysis, financial baselines and external benchmarks;
- Take ownership of assigned activities, timelines and deliverables, proactively communicating progress, findings and potential issues to senior team members;
- Coordinate with and support junior colleagues, providing guidance and reviewing their analyses where appropriate;
- Develop effective working relationships with client teams, functional leaders, M&A professionals and colleagues across Deloitte;
- Support business development through research and the preparation of proposals, pitches and client materials; and
- Contribute to practice development initiatives focusing on M&A value creation and pre-deal due diligence.
What we are looking for
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business, economics, finance, engineering or another relevant discipline;
- At least three years of relevant professional experience in M&A, with a particular focus on commercial or operational due diligence within a Big Four accounting firm, strategy consultancy or specialised restructuring and turnaround adviser;
- Demonstrated experience in operational due diligence, ideally combined with exposure to one or more of the following areas: synergy identification and quantification; separation diagnostics and standalone costing; business diagnostics; or financial baselining;
- Ideally, demonstrated experience also in commercial due diligence, business planning, business-plan reviews and revenue growth;
- An understanding of due diligence processes and documentation requirements within an advisory environment;
- Experience or knowledge in one or more of the following industries: Energy, Resources & Industrials; Consumer; Life Sciences & Healthcare; or Technology, Media & Telecommunications;
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to disaggregate complex issues, identify root causes and develop actionable recommendations;
- Strong quantitative capabilities and confidence working with financial and operational data;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings clearly and concisely;
- A proactive, collaborative and pragmatic working style, combined with intellectual curiosity, attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality; and
- Full professional proficiency in English; fluency in German, ideally including Swiss German, is highly desirable.
