ROLE DESCRIPTION
• The Manager VAT will be part of the VAT team responsible for managing the indirect tax position of the group in different countries, including overseeing the compliance and reporting delivery and identifying new requirements, with a strong focus on VAT.
• Additionally, he/ she will partner with the finance teams to administer the period end close process. You will become a pivotal member of the tax team and work collaboratively with the VAT team and the VP Tax on a variety of ad-hoc projects whilst promoting awareness across the business. The Manager VAT reports directly to the VP Tax.
• This role is based in our Operational Headquarters in Basel, Switzerland. Please note that we can only accept applicants who are eligible to work in Switzerland or in possession of a valid work permit.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide indirect tax advice to business and finance teams
• Clarify VAT treatment of new transactions and identify Indirect tax obligations linked to activities in new markets and/or new cruises itineraries and document
• Monitor and analyze proposed and newly enacted VAT / indirect tax legislation, administrative position, rulings, court cases, for matters that impact the indirect tax position of the company, and propose strategic action steps as needed, balancing risk mitigation with costs to the business
• Manage special projects
• Be a key part of the VAT compliance process including:
o Ensuring timely submission and accuracy of VAT filings prepared by tax accounting team and external advisors
o Documenting VAT registration status and filing position of different group entities in various countries
o Maintaining contact with VAT Tax Authorities and managing VAT audits
• Partner with Finance Team for the administration of period end close process, ensuring relevant deadlines are met
• Work effectively with internal and external auditors
• Collaborate with external tax advisors
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
• Certified Swiss tax expert (or equivalent), with a strong VAT technical background
• 8+ years of total work experience in the areas of European and international VAT
• Experience with compliance processes
• Possesses and demonstrates real analytical skills and can apply a logical approach to new challenges
• Be a strong communicator and possess an ability to develop trusting and credible relationships at all levels of the business and across various teams
• Have a questioning and inquisitive mind - not afraid to ask questions or challenge convention, nor to drive improvements and efficiencies as appropriate.
• Be flexible and adaptable, understand the overall goals of the team and actively seek to help achieve them
• Willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and perform original work
• Solutions-oriented mindset
• Ambitious, enthusiastic and looking to progress within a reputable and fast-moving organization
• Excellent German and English skills (written & verbal)
• Experience in the cruise industry and Microsoft Dynamics is an asset
• Stress resistant, calm under pressure, team player and with a positive appearance
• Must be able to work independently
