The National Centre of Competence in Research NCCR Genesis is a research infrastructure project funded by SNSF focussing on exploring the emergence of life in the Universe. This interdisciplinary research infrastructure brings together physicists, earth and planetary scientists, chemists and biologists to understand the conditions and the mechanisms that enable life to emerge. Developing reliable methods to detect reliable traces of life (biosignatures) – whether through remote sensing or direct onsite measurements – requires significant innovation. These challenges demand close collaboration across physics, biology, chemistry and the earth sciences. NCCR Genesis does not aim to provide answers in all fields, but to drive innovative research and achieve decisive progress.
Details on NCCR Genesis are available on its website https://nccr-genesis.ch .
NCCR Genesis is deeply committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. Our aim is to cultivate a respectful and fair work culture with equal access to professional development and support for all. We strongly encourage applications from under-represented groups.
Presentation
The Regional Management Office of the NCCR Genesis at the Institute of Earth Sciences at UNIL invites applications for an Equal Opportunities (EO) Expert. The EO Expert will work with the Equal Opportunities Committee to oversee and promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) activities across all aspects of the NCCR Genesis structure and operations. The person in this role will provide expertise on EDI issues and be a driving force for our actions.
Expertise consultation on EDI within the NCCR Genesis will involve curating a database and collection of EDI materials, liaising with the Bureau de l’égalité at UNIL and with similar offices across the NCCR Genesis institutions, and providing expert advice, support and information to members of the Genesis research and management team. There will also be a role in advising on the appropriate courses of action following incidents of discrimination and conflicts.
The EO Expert will also have a major role in planning, leading and delivering EDI actions, including leading the EO Committee in writing and periodically updating the Gensis code of conduct, as well as organizing EDI workshops and training for Genesis members, and representing our EO actions in presentations. The EO Expert will manage the inter-institutional Mentorship program, and work with the Education Officer to plan and run the International Internship program. This position also offers the opportunity to conduct research on EDI actions within the NCCR Gensis, with the potential to prepare publications on our EO actions.
Assistance with administration of the EO Office is also part of the responsibilities of this post, including working with the EO Officer in Zurich on the budget and administration of the EO Committee meetings, as well as managing the email inbox.
