The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, education and services at local, national and international level. 950 staff and students from 95 nations work at Swiss TPH focusing on climate change, environment and health, infectious and non-communicable diseases, societal and cultural context, and health systems and policies.

We are looking for a committed, well-organized and creative Communications Intern (80 - 100%).

As part of a dynamic and dedicated communications team, you will help position Swiss TPH as a leading institute in global health that combines research, education and services.

The internship would ideally start in August/September 2024. The exact starting date and length of the internship can be discussed.



Your position

  • Create content (written and audiovisuals) for our broad variety of channels including the website, intranet and social media
  • Provide writing and editing support in English and German for communication materials (including the website, intranet, social media, flyers, posters, etc.)
  • Support the event management of various events such as symposia, lectures and internal events
  • Support visitor management and welcome various stakeholder groups to the Swiss TPH headquarters
  • Support the communications team in any other communication activities that may arise

Your profile

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in communications, management, economics, political sciences, life sciences or a similar field
  • Demonstrated interest in communications, public relations and event management
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Very good writing skills and ability to work confidently across digital, print, and social media platforms
  • Familiarity with social media management and/or web content management tools desirable (e.g. Typo3)
  • Fluency in written and spoken German and English. Additional language skills such as French, Italian or Spanish are an asset
