The Underwriter in the Programmes Team serves as the client relationship owner and is the primary point of contact and strategic manager for our delegated authority partners, including distributors (wholesalers) and managing general agents (MGAs). This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the client relationship to ensure mutual success, profitability, and growth. Key Responsibilities: 1. Relationship Management - Serve as the main point of contact for assigned clients, building and maintaining strong, long-term relationships. - Conduct regular meetings and reviews with clients to discuss performance, address concerns, and identify opportunities. - Collaborate with internal teams to deliver tailored solutions and resolve issues promptly. 2. Performance Monitoring and Control - Implement and oversee underwriting performance controls to ensure adherence to guidelines and profitability targets. - Regularly analyse and report on key performance indicators, such as loss ratios, expense ratios, premium volume. - Identify trends and potential issues in underwriting performance, recommending and implementing corrective actions where needed. 3. Business Development - Identify and pursue opportunities for growth within existing client relationships. - Collaborate with clients to develop new products or expand into new markets. - Cross-sell additional products or services to increase penetration. 4. Negotiation and Contract Management - Lead contract negotiations with clients, including terms, conditions, and commission structures. - Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure all agreements meet regulatory requirements. - Manage the renewal process for existing contracts, identifying opportunities for improved terms. 5. Underwriting Decision Making and Oversight - Triage business cases and decide whether to recommend new or renewal business case to underwriting committee. - Prepare underwriting memo and Term Sheet in collaboration with company actuaries and/or specialty underwriters if needed. - Participate in underwriting due diligence and audits. - Work closely with clients’ underwriting teams to ensure client adherence to underwriting guidelines and authority limits. - Facilitate communication between clients and internal teams to resolve complex risk issues. - Stay informed of changes in underwriting appetite and communicate these to clients promptly. 6. Reinsurance Structuring - Collaborate with reinsurance teams to design and implement optimal reinsurance structures for client programs. - Understand and communicate the impact of reinsurance arrangements on client profitability and capacity. - Assist in negotiations with reinsurers when necessary to secure favourable terms for client programs. 7. Compliance and Risk Management - Ensure client compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies as well as data requirements and flows. - Conduct regular audits of client operations to verify adherence to delegated authority agreements. - Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with client relationships. 8. Industry Knowledge and Professional Development - Stay current with industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes. - Attend and participate in relevant industry events and conferences. - Continuously enhance professional knowledge and skills related to insurance, underwriting, and relationship management. Qualifications and Skills: - Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field; advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., CPCU, ACII) preferred. - At least 10 years of experience in insurance account management, underwriting, or related roles. - Strong understanding of insurance products, underwriting principles, and reinsurance concepts. - Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. - Proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships. - Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data and derive actionable insights. - Proficiency in relevant software and data analysis tools.
