Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgeon (Oberarzt) position available at the VETSUISSE FACULTY
ZURICH, Clinic for Small Animal Surgery.

The Clinic for Small Animal Surgery offers a Senior Surgeon (Oberarzt) position available as of
January 2024. Deadline for application is October 15th 12:00 PM CEST. The position is a full-
time soft tissue surgeon position with emphasis on clinical service, teaching and research.
Candidates are expected to have an ECVS/ACVS diploma or to be Board eligible. Interest and
training in minimally invasive surgery are welcome.

The Zurich Small Animal Teaching Hospital is a state-of-the art facility equipped with the
most advanced equipment including fluoroscopy, 3 Tesla MRI, 16 slices CT scan, scintigraphy,
radiation therapy, minimally invasive equipment to perform laparoscopy, thoracoscopy and
arthroscopy (integrated OR) and NIR- imaging, among others.
The service operates as part of the Clinic for Small Animal Surgery (Head Prof. A. Pozzi) which
is comprised of a team of 7 boarded ECVS/ACVS Diplomates in total), supported by specialized
surgical interns as well residents which rotate through all services of the clinic (Soft Tissue
and Oncologic Surgery, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine and an Emergency Service). The
candidate will work with a senior Soft Tissue and Oncologic surgeon and a specialty surgical
intern who supports the service and is involved in the research projects.

The Soft Tissue Service cooperates closely with the Clinic for Internal Medicine and the
oncology team, which is currently comprised of 3 boarded radiation oncologist a boarded
medical oncologist, residents as well as interns. Interactive case discussions and regular
interdisciplinary oncology rounds as well as histology rounds are held to ensure the highest
quality patient care. The current research focus of the service lies in surgical oncology (NIR
applications, real time tumor imaging, molecular understanding of sarcoma) with active
collaborations with the oncology group, the Institute of Veterinary Pharmacology and
Toxicology, the Institute for Veterinary Pathology, the Department of Chemistry as well as
international collaborations with several human oncology centers.

Candidates with research interests in soft tissue, oncologic and/or minimally invasive surgery,
are encouraged to apply. We support candidates if they are interested in combining the
position with a PhD or Habilitation.

The candidate is expected to learn German within a period of 2 years. Zurich is well-known
