Sie wird von den Kantonen Basel-Stadt und Zug betrieben und verfügt über 108 Plätze im Normalvollzug und 12 Plätze in einer Sicherheitsabteilung. In der JVA Bostadel sind rund 90 Mitarbeitende tätig, welche die Sicherheit innerhalb der Institution gewährleisten sowie dazu beitragen die 120 Gefangenen sinnvoll zu beschäftigen und zu resozialisieren.
