Your responsibilities

As part of a team of Science IT experts you will be responsible for the administration and enhancement of all of the centralized Scientific IT high performance computing infrastructure at the University of Zurich.

Your responsibilities will include

  • administration and monitoring of the private openstack based cloud infrastructure and the provided services
  • contribute to a continuous optimization of the existing installation
  • work on the development and deployment of new systems and services to support research
  • assist researchers with their technical challenges on a regular basis
You will have the opportunity to learn or expand your knowledge in technologies such as cloud computing, parallel and distributed file systems (like CEPH), batch queue systems, advanced networking as well as Python programming.

Your profile

You have a strong background in Linux systems administration, as well as, an understanding of Ethernet networking and TCP/IP. You are comfortable automating repetitive tasks using Bash or other scripting languages or tools. You have used version control systems such as git to organize and track changes to your work. You use tools to automate system configuration (ansible, puppet, etc.). You can quickly identify potential problems and have the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot. You can communicate effectively in both written and spoken English, enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment, and are eager to assist researchers with their technical challenges.
