Job description
The Section of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Geneva offers a dynamic and highly stimulating research environment. It has been among the best pharmaceutical science schools worldwide for several years and has a new high-quality infrastructure allowing it to host collaborations under the best possible conditions. The Section is launching a call for applications for a position of assistant professor (with conditional tenure track) or associate professor in the field of pharmaceutical technology and biopharmacy.
The successful candidate will establish a competitive research programme focused on advanced pharmaceutical technology processes and biopharmacy, including contemporary manufacturing and development methods (for conventional drugs and new therapeutic modalities), 3D printing and bioprinting, homogenisation techniques, and microfluidics-based formulation strategies. Expertise in developing and applying these approaches to advance relevant in vitro and ex vivo experimental models for pharmaceutical performance evaluation is desirable, particularly methods that promote mechanistic understanding and predictive assessment of drug delivery systems. Experience in integrating computational or AI-based tools into these tasks would be considered a major asset, enhancing the innovative and cutting-edge nature of the research programme. While the candidate’s research may cover a broad range of drug delivery challenges, an interest in interactions between drug delivery systems and complex biological interfaces, such as mucosal tissues, would be considered an asset, as would the use of innovative polymer systems and bio-inspired formulations. Proven ability to advance knowledge in standard pharmaceutical technology manufacturing processes will also be considered an asset.
The successful candidate will contribute to teaching in pharmaceutical technology, biopharmacy, and related disciplines, and will actively participate in interdisciplinary collaborations within the Section of Pharmaceutical Sciences and across the wider scientific community. Candidates demonstrating scientific creativity, rigour, strong communication skills, and the ability to establish a sustainable, externally funded research programme are sought.
This is a full-time position including teaching at Bachelor, Master, and postgraduate levels in pharmaceutical sciences, as well as supervision of Master’s and doctoral theses. The candidate is expected to develop internationally leading research and secure external funding for their research. The candidate must be able to teach basic pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical technology. The candidate will also be involved in supervising Bachelor students in practical work (as co-leader). They will also be expected to undertake management and organisational tasks at the Section of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Faculty of Science levels.
Title and required skills
• PhD in pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent qualification.
• Track record of obtaining funding from national and/or international research agencies and industry.
• Publications in leading international journals.
• The candidate must be fluent in English and willing to learn French.
Starting date
1 September 2028, or by agreement

Job description
The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Geneva offers a dynamic and highly stimulating research environment. It has been one of the world's leading schools of pharmaceutical sciences for several years, and boasts a new, high-quality infrastructure enabling it to host collaborations
under the best possible conditions. The School invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor
(tenure-track) or Associate Professor in the field of pharmaceutical technology and biopharmacy.
The successful candidate will establish a competitive research programme focused on advanced pharmaceutical technology processes and biopharmacy, including contemporary manufacturing and development methods (for conventional drug and newer therapeutic modalities), 3D printing and bioprinting, homogenisation techniques, and microfluidics‑based formulation strategies. Expertise in developing and applying these approaches to advance in vitro and ex vivo experimental models relevant to pharmaceutical performance assessment is desirable, particularly methods that support mechanistic understanding and predictive evaluation of drug delivery systems. Experience integrating AI‑driven or computational tools into these tasks would be considered a strong asset, reinforcing the innovative and forward‑looking nature of the research programme. While the candidate’s research may span a wide range of drug delivery challenges, interest in the interactions between drug delivery systems and complex biological interfaces, such as mucosal tissues, would be considered an asset as would the use of innovative polymeric systems and bioinspired formulations. Demonstrated ability to advance knowledge in standard pharmaceutical technology manufacturing processes will also be viewed favourably.
The selected candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in pharmaceutical technology, biopharmacy, and related disciplines, and will actively engage in interdisciplinary collaborations within the School of pharmaceutical sciences and across the broader scientific community. We welcome applicants who demonstrate scientific creativity, rigour, strong communication skills, and the ability to build a sustainable, externally funded research programme that advances pharmaceutical sciences.
This is a fully funded position involving teaching at Bachelor, Master, and Post-graduate levels in pharmaceutical sciences, as well as supervising master's and doctoral theses. The candidate is expected to develop cutting-edge research recognised at an international level and to obtain extramural funding. The candidate must be able to teach basic biopharmacy and pharmaceutical technology. The candidate will also be involved in supervising Bachelor students in practical work (as co-lead of practical courses). He/she will also be expected to take on management and organisational functions in the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and at the Faculty level.
REQUIREMENTS • Doctorate in pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent qualification. • Track record of obtaining extramural funding from national and/or international funding agencies and through industrial collaborations. • Track record of publications in leading international journals. • Must be fluent in English and willing to learn French.
APPLICATION PACKAGE Applications must include the following documents: • Cover letter. • Detailed CV together with a list of publications and a copy of the diploma of the PhD degree. • Research statement (4 pages maximum). • Teaching statement describing the candidate's potential contribution to our teaching programmes (2 pages maximum). • Contact details of 4 referees who may be contacted directly by the search committee. Applications must be written in French or English and submitted exclusively online to the following address: https://jobs.unige.ch by December 15, 2026 (23h59 Geneva local time). APPLICATIONS SENT BY E-MAIL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
