Senior Azure Engineer

We are looking for a Senior On-Premises, Hybrid, and Cloud Engineer (Azure) who takes responsibility and builds scalable, secure, and highly automated infrastructures with us. A special focus is on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Windows System Administration.

You will work closely with Development, Security, and Operations and have the opportunity to actively shape technical decisions.

Your tasks

• You design, build, and operate Azure cloud infrastructures using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Puppet)
• You develop and are responsible for CI/CD pipelines for automated build, test, and deployment processes
• You ensure availability, performance, security, and scalability of our Azure environments
• You work closely with our development teams and support cloud-native and hybrid workloads
• You administer and analyse Linux and Windows servers in cloud (Azure, ELCA Sovereign Cloud) and hybrid environments
• You establish and optimise monitoring, logging, and alerting so that issues are detected early and systems can be operated reliably
• You bring in DevOps best practices in version control, automation, and continuous improvement
• You actively participate in architectural decisions and technical concepts
• You support incidents, root cause analyses, and the continuous optimisation of our infrastructure
• You share your know-how, support junior engineers, and develop our DevOps standards and documentation together with the team

Your profile

• Proven experience as a Senior DevOps / Azure DevOps Engineer, completed bachelor’s degree in IT
• Solid practical experience with Microsoft Azure services (compute, networking, storage, identity)
• Very good knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, e.g. Terraform (required), Puppet or comparable tools
• Experience in building and operating CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
• Good knowledge of Linux and/or Windows system administration
• Very good scripting skills (e.g. Bash, PowerShell, Python)
• Experience with Git and modern version control processes
• Basic understanding of security, networking, and cloud governance
• The ability to analyse and sustainably solve complex infrastructure and deployment problems in a structured way
• You feel comfortable in agile, dynamic environments and want not only to manage existing systems but actively improve them

• Fluent in German and English (at least level C1)
