THE ADVANTAGES OF THE JOB

Hello everyone, my name is Sébastien, I am a Distinguished Engineer, or senior engineer, in plain English, specialising in data and artificial intelligence at Société Générale since 2021, which I joined after spending about ten years in a large tech company to take on a new challenge.

If I had to sum it up in one sentence. My job consists of guiding strategic decisions in technology and innovation. Of course, on a daily basis, it is a bit more varied and no two days are the same. Nevertheless, there are three main pillars that stand out.

Firstly, it is defining and executing the technical strategy for the Group's data and AI platforms, whether in terms of technologies, products, innovation, or construction methods.

Secondly, it is managing the portfolio of projects at the forefront of innovation, such as the implementation of the Group Société Générale's generative AI platform.

And finally, thirdly, participating in educational and cultural efforts with business lines to explain how data and AI can improve their daily work.

In my opinion, there are two key skills. The first is curiosity, since we are in a world where technology moves fast and innovates very quickly. The second is boldness, as you also need to be able to think outside the box to create the conditions for change and apply innovation daily.

For several years, I have been coaching and mentoring young technical talents, whether they are developers or data scientists. I am always very proud when I see them develop and flourish within the Group.

My team is international as it is mainly based in France and India. In this context, it is extremely important for me to have an atmosphere where everyone feels free to express their opinions and ideas. I also place great importance on autonomy and initiative, because we operate in a field where innovation is key and therefore everyone must be given the opportunity to be autonomous and take the initiatives they consider appropriate at their level.

When I joined the Group, what surprised me most was both the appetite for technological innovation, while operating in a highly regulated sector, so I was very positively surprised to see how the Group managed to resolve this apparent contradiction to create innovations that are both responsible and compliant with current regulations.
