About the job
Head of Infrastructure Building Management (m/f/d)
In the Facility Services Department at ETH Zurich, we create the optimal conditions for teaching, research and technology transfer. We maintain the buildings and ensure the energy and media supply as well as the technical and infrastructural building management of all rooms used by ETH Zurich.
Do you enjoy leading a team, further developing processes and ensuring that building operations run smoothly, efficiently and customer-oriented? Do you like working independently and keeping an overview even in complex situations? Then we invite you to read on – because here awaits a position with plenty of scope for design and real impact.
For the Hönggerberg site, we are looking immediately or by arrangement for a Head of IGM (m/f/d) – with responsibility and heart for our buildings in the HC building area .
Job Description
As Head of IGM, you are responsible for the entire infrastructural building operation in the HC building area and ensure smooth operation. You ensure that cleaning, maintenance, logistics and other infrastructural services are provided efficiently, economically and sustainably.
With your expertise, you continuously develop existing cleaning and operational processes, manage internal employees as well as external service providers and ensure a high quality of service. You plan and coordinate cleaning and maintenance orders, monitor the targeted deployment of personnel and resources and are responsible for the procurement and inventory of materials, equipment and machines.
In addition, you initiate and accompany special and basic cleaning, check the services provided and always keep an eye on budgets, contracts as well as additional and reduced services. Furthermore, you take on a variety of tasks in operational building management. These include minor repairs, troubleshooting, opening and closing buildings, optimising HVAC operating times and supporting events.
In the area of safety, you play an important role: you monitor fire alarm systems, handle alarm messages, provide first aid if necessary and actively participate in the fire alarm and evacuation organisation.
As a leader, you manage caretakers and cleaning staff, promote their professional and personal development, plan resources proactively and create a motivating working environment. In addition, you participate in projects, accompany tenders and represent the building area manager during absences in both operational and strategic matters.
In short: You take responsibility for infrastructural building operations, drive their further development and ensure that processes, services and infrastructure reliably interlock.
Profile
- Basic craft training and preferably specialised training in facility management as well as several years of experience in infrastructural building management
- Sound understanding of cleaning, maintenance and building logistics processes

- In-depth knowledge of cleaning processes, proven experience in process design, quality management and controlling as well as the ability to reconcile economic and ecological requirements
- Solid project management skills, the ability to structure workflows and set priorities as well as the willingness to take responsibility and make decisions
- Technical basic understanding of buildings and building services engineering as well as a structured, solution-oriented approach
- The ability to quickly recognise challenges and solve them pragmatically
- Strong communication skills, empathy and professional customer orientation as well as conflict resolution skills and diplomatic tact
- Very good German and good English skills
