Your tasks
Are you looking for a daily challenge to contribute your technical know-how in a creative, dynamic, international working environment?
As a member of the Sample Environment group, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of software to control complex experimental apparatus using the Python framework Frappy and employing the "Sample Environment Communication Protocol" (SECoP) at the Swiss Neutron Source SINQ.
You enjoy designing, developing, and assembling experimental apparatus and electronic components and see it as a positive challenge to implement modifications and repairs quickly and under time pressure. You are enthusiastic about participating in technical and scientific projects and interacting with international project partners.
Your profile
You are an electrical engineer with a FH degree or hold an equivalent or higher qualification. You like to work precisely and neatly and are motivated to contribute to an international team.
You have technical skills and experience in measurement and control technology, low-level programming, programming in Python, as well as electronics. You can read and create electrical schematics.
You are not afraid to perform simple tasks such as basic soldering or creating measurement series.
Experience in cryo- and vacuum technology as well as handling CAD software is an advantage, as is experience in Linux system administration. You are willing to deepen your knowledge in new specialised areas and are open to taking on new tasks in a dynamic field of work. You have proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
We offer
Our institute is based on interdisciplinary, innovative, and dynamic collaboration. In addition to systematic onboarding, you will benefit from individual development opportunities and our strong culture of continuing education. For concerns regarding the optimal balance of work and family or personal interests, we support you with modern employment conditions and facilities on site.
We would like to point out that this position is to be performed entirely on site at PSI. We cannot offer a hybrid working model for this role.
For technical enquiries, please contact Marek Bartkowiak, Tel. +41 56 310 46 22.
We look forward to receiving your online application by 28 August 2026 (including a brief description of max. 2 pages about a project you have carried out in one of your areas of expertise) for the position of Development Engineer (Index No. 3601-28797).
