Laboratory Manager (80-100%)
University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW, Institute of Thermo- and Fluid-Engineering
Your tasks:
The Institute of Thermo- and Fluid-Engineering (ITFE) at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW combines practice-oriented teaching with application-driven research and development. Together with industry partners, we develop innovative solutions in the fields of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer and energy technology. We rely on modern simulation, testing and measurement methods and work closely with national and international partners. In doing so, we make an important contribution to the development of efficient and future-oriented technologies.
Your tasks:
- Laboratory organisation and safety: Responsibility for the operational condition of the laboratory infrastructure, maintenance of the equipment and compliance with occupational safety and environmental regulations. Organisation of laboratory use and laboratory infrastructure
- Test rig design: 3D CAD modelling (preferably with Siemens Solid Edge) of test rigs and experimental setups in collaboration with our project managers and external customers
- Plant construction and assembly: Mechanical assembly, piping of test rigs for gases and liquids
- Measurement technology and sensor technology: Support for our assistants and scientific staff in the selection, integration and calibration of sensors for physical quantities such as pressure, temperature, flow and flow velocity. Manufacture of special solutions (e.g. fast thermocouples and pitot tubes)
- Support for teaching and research: Support for students in their project work, collaboration and organisation of laboratory exercises
Your profile:
- Training: a completed apprenticeship as a polymechanic EFZ, designer EFZ or plant and apparatus builder EFZ
- Professional experience: several years of solid professional experience in technical test rig construction, prototype construction or in the industrial development of thermofluid systems
- As a generalist, you have an interdisciplinary technical understanding of process chains (the product from sketch through manufacturing to assembly and maintenance) and interfaces (understanding the language of the designer and the plant builder) and bring a technology mix of mechanics, electrical engineering, pneumatics and hydraulics. Proficient use of 3D CAD systems, preferably Solid Edge
- Practical knowledge: Practical experience in the use of fluidic components (pumps, valves, compressors) as well as in measurement, control and regulation technology (MSR) is an advantage. You can quickly familiarise yourself (also autodidactically) with new subject areas, software tools or customer requirements
- Additional desirable skills: Welding and hard soldering of stainless steel and experience with technical adhesives
- Project management: You can independently plan, coordinate and monitor your own projects with regard to deadlines and costs
- Problem-solving skills: You find quick, pragmatic solutions to unforeseen problems
- Social and communication strengths: You communicate successfully with various stakeholders at different organisational levels
The services of FHNW provide the universities and their students with various services and systems. The employees of the services operate in a lively and networked working environment and are in exchange with various stakeholders and external partners.
