Supervisor / Caregiver - Lodge - Career changers welcome 80 - 100%With around 1,400 employees, the Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is responsible for penal and measure enforcement as well as the execution of various types of detention. Our employees from around 40 professions support and promote the reintegration of offenders and are committed effectively and progressively to a safe and just society.
The Zurich Remand Prisons (UGZ) are one of eight main departments of JuWe, comprising seven facilities with around 735 prison places and about 500 employees. They are responsible for provisional detention, investigative and security custody, as well as early penal and measure enforcement until transfer to a correctional facility. Thus, they fulfil a central function within the Zurich justice system.
As part of the Zurich Remand Prisons (UGZ), the Zurich West Prison (GZW) is located in the Police and Justice Centre Zurich and has 241 detention places. It specialises in provisional detention and investigative custody and plays a central role in the admission and initial care of incarcerated persons.
To strengthen our team in the lodge, we are looking for a committed and team-oriented individual. The position is limited to 12 months from the start of employment.
Your tasks
- You monitor and control access as well as security-relevant processes
- As the first point of contact, you welcome visitors, lawyers, and other external professionals
- You are responsible for the telephone switchboard, coordinating incoming requests efficiently and solution-oriented
- In close cooperation with internal services, you ensure smooth operations
- Administrative tasks related to lodge operations are also part of your daily routine
- You ensure consistent compliance with security regulations even in challenging situations
- You conduct conversations with upset or emotionally burdened persons calmly and professionally
- In security-critical moments, you act prudently and decisively
- You remain structured and clear even under time pressure or in complex situations
What you bring
- You are at least 25 years old, have a vocational qualification (EFZ or journeyman's certificate), and have no entries in the criminal or debt register
- Ideally, you have experience in security, care, or service-related environments
- High mental and physical resilience, a sense of responsibility, and assertiveness come naturally to you
- A calm, factual, and composed demeanour as well as empathy in demanding situations
- Clear communication, a confident attitude, and appropriate persistence
- You have very good German language skills, both spoken and written. Additional foreign languages are an advantage
- Proficiency in MS Office and a general IT affinity are among your strengths
- You are willing to work shifts, including early, late, and weekend shifts
