PhD Program - Ancient Sciences
CategoryPositionEDOCSA brings together the Departments and Institutes of Archaeology and Ancient Sciences of the Universities of Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne, and Neuchâtel. It also includes the teachings as well as the doctoral students from the departments of prehistory and archaeometry located in the Faculty of Science of the Universities of Fribourg and Geneva.
Complete the training of doctoral students in disciplinary fields they have not studied in their curriculum; Enrich their knowledge in varied and specialized research areas related to their thesis; Offer them a place for meetings and intellectual exchanges, likely to relieve them from isolation and integrate them into the international research circuit.
The course offerings are structured into several modules:
Thematic modules.
Disciplinary and/or cross-disciplinary modules.
Socialization modules (e.g., meeting days for doctoral students).
Each year, about ten workshops (block courses, doctoral cafés, junior colloquium, and seminars) are organized across the four university sites.

Objectives of the doctoral program
The aim of the doctoral program is to provide scientific and methodological support to doctoral students in the development of their thesis, pursuing three objectives:Complete the training of doctoral students in disciplinary fields they have not studied in their curriculum; Enrich their knowledge in varied and specialized research areas related to their thesis; Offer them a place for meetings and intellectual exchanges, likely to relieve them from isolation and integrate them into the international research circuit.
Training and support for doctoral students
EDOCSA is aimed at doctoral students in Ancient Sciences, holders of a degree (Bachelor or Master) from a Swiss or foreign university, and who are enrolled as doctoral students at one of the four partner universities.The course offerings are structured into several modules:
